DLM Dock Leveler Problems? Holdown, Load Roller & Conversion Kit Buying Guide
DLM dock levelers show up less often in parts searches than Rite-Hite, Kelley, or Blue Giant, which means it's easy to end up guessing at cross-brand substitutes that don't actually fit. DLM uses its own holdown, roller, and hardware numbering, so matching the exact part matters more than usual here.
Holdown Slipping or Not Releasing Cleanly
If a trailer creeps away from the dock during loading, or the restraint mechanism won't release cleanly after the truck is done, the holdown assembly is the usual suspect. The standard DLMF8000 replacement holdown with ratchet bar runs about $1,284. If your dock has had near-misses from staff forgetting to release manually, the DLMF8000AR auto-release conversion kit (also around $1,284) adds automatic pressure release without replacing the whole leveler. For long-body holdown styles, there's the DLMF8000ARL long holdown conversion at about $1,234.
Deck Rocking or Rough Under Load? Check the Load Rollers
Constant forklift traffic wears the load rollers under the deck long before most operators notice. Symptoms show up as a rocking or clunking feel as a loaded pallet jack crosses the deck, or visible flat spots on the roller itself. DLM uses two common sizes: the DLMF8001, 2" x 3-3/4" load roller at about $125, and the DLMF8002, 2" x 4-1/2" load roller at about $130. Measure the roller you're pulling before ordering — the two sizes aren't interchangeable.
Conversion Kits: Upgrading Instead of Just Repairing
A few DLM parts exist specifically to solve a design weak point rather than just replace a worn piece. The DKIT9300 EOD torsion-to-extension spring conversion kit (about $595) is worth a look if your edge-of-dock unit has a history of torsion spring failures — it swaps the design over to extension springs, which are generally easier and safer to service. The DKIT9900 shock conversion kit (about $414) does something similar for units where the factory setup is beating itself apart on hard cycles. And the DKIT3740 NeverLift conversion kit (about $554) removes stored spring tension from the lifting mechanism entirely, which is worth considering if your team has had a scare during spring service.
Cross Traffic and Toe Guard Kits
If pedestrians or other vehicles cross in front of your dock doors, the DKIT6230 cross traffic leg kit (9") at about $753 or the DKIT6231 12" version at about $809 add a support leg so the leveler can safely support cross-dock traffic when it's not in use for loading. For pinch-point protection along the leveler's pit edges, the DKIT9180 toe guard kit for 8' boards runs about $997.
