Buyer's Guide

Automatic restraints provide the highest level of protection and are recommended for high-volume docks — they engage without operator intervention and can interlock with dock levelers and traffic signals. Manual restraints require a defined procedure but are effective when consistently used. Specify restraint force rating, RIG engagement range (vertical and horizontal), and compatibility with your dock leveler brand for interlock integration. For facilities handling trailers without standard RIG bars, wheel-based restraints are the appropriate solution.

Safety/Compliance: OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(k) requires procedures to prevent trailer movement. Interlock systems that prevent leveler operation until the restraint is engaged are recognized as engineering controls — the highest level of hazard control in the hierarchy.
